YOG: S'pore football team handed tricky draw at football event

SINGAPORE: The Singapore football team has been handed a tricky test at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games when they were drawn against favourites Montenegro and unknown package Zimbabwe in the group stage at the Men's football event.

The men and women football team draws were held on Tuesday at the PSA Building Auditorium, witnessed by officials from participating National Olympic Councils in a ceremony presided over by Federation International de Football (FIFA) and the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC).

Singapore, the only seeded team as they are the host country, was drawn in Group D along with Zimbabwe and Montenegro. They will kick off their campaign against Zimbabwe on August 13 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

The outcome of the draw did not affect Singapore YOG's football team coach Kadir Yahaya's mood.

"They can call it the luck of the draw but anything is possible. I can assure you every team is well prepared," said Yahaya when asked if he had hoped to avoid Montenegro in the group stages.
